What a day

Some of you new to reading my blog probably know very little about me.Even though I post mostly about bike riding ,and such, a great deal of my "other" time is involved with running my gym.My gym isn't all that big a deal. It's kinda small and relatively easy to run.I pretty much try and approach it just like I do my house.I pay the bills, keep the place clean and try and fix anything that breaks. For the most part the gym runs itself, other times ,like today,it is one thing after another.Typically when it's "one thing after another" that usually means something is going to cost money.

Today started out like every other Wednesday.I have to be at the gym at 5:30......yes.......in the a.m.I go in and notice one of the treadmills wont work. This is never a good thing.I do some investigating to find that the lower circuit board burned up somehow.I've worked on these treadmills for so long I pretty much know what to look for now when they go down.I call the manufacturer, they walk me thru a few diagnostic test and we come to the conclusion that it's not only the circuit board but also the drive motor.Cha-ching.

I really hate having a treadmill down.It takes about 5 days before I get new parts and I just hate seeing a piece of equipment out of commission.I hope people understand that things happen and I will get it back up asap.

So the day continues on.I am also a personal trainer so in addition to handling gym operations I also see clients thru-out the day.Today was extremely long.My first client of the day was at 530 and my last was at 4:00.

One thing I've always noticed when it comes to treadmills going down is that it never is just one problem.Today was no different. After figuring out that the reason the first treadmill went down was due to the motor being overloaded I went ahead and lubed up the remaining treadmill deck boards. This makes them slick and reduces drag when the treadmill is being used.basically it's makes the motor not have to work so hard. For some reason when I lubed one deck board somehow the lube seeped thru the belt making it really slippery. Can't have a slippery belt.By now it is around 4 and there is no way I can leave this treadmill with a slippery belt.Luckily I had a couple extra belts.Instead of going on my local Wednesday night bike ride I had to stick around and do the right thing by replacing the belt. This took about 2 hours. While doing this I noticed that the inners of this treadmill sure were dirty and nasty inside. After putting it back together I decided to go ahead and clean another one up.I'm thinking maybe this is what caused treadmill number one to go bad.Dirty usually will cause drag which causes motors to burn up.

After finally putting treadmill number 3 back together I can finally call it a day.Who said working for yourself was easy.I just put in a 14 hour day !!!Luckily there are more good days than bad.If every day were like today I think I would have to find a new job.
